The company&#8217;s previous roastery in the center of Vuosaari had been in use for more than 40 years. The building was designed by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tommilaarchitects.com\/\"> Architects Tommila Oy<\/a> and Lemcon Oy was the main contractor. The interior of the house was designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiobergroth.fi\/fi\/esittely.php\">Studio Bergroth<\/a>.<\/p><p>The Vuosaari roastery produces 100 million coffee packages per year and has more than 200 different products in its production. The roastery is one of the largest in Europe and employs a couple of hundred people. The location in Vuosaari Harbor is excellent, as the raw coffee comes to Finland by ship. In addition to Oy Gustav Paulig Ab, the group&#8217;s parent company Paulig Oy and Santa Maria Finland Oy operate in the building. In November 2009, Paulig\u2019s new roastery received<a href=\"https:\/\/fi.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vuoden_ter%C3%A4srakenne\"> Steel Structure of the Year 2009 award<\/a> . Emissions from the roastery building have been reduced by 98 percent since 2014, and the remaining emissions will be compensated by carbon sequestration projects. The Vuosaari roaster is entirely powered by renewable energy. Paulig has earned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonneutral.com\/\">CarbonNeutral\u00ae<\/a> certificate.<\/p><p>The family-owned Paulig is the market leader in both Finland and the Baltic countries. In Russia, it is the second largest supplier of roasted coffee. The company employs more than 2,000 people in 13 different countries.<\/p><p>The roastery&#8217;s fire technology is demanding, as fires belong to the roastery. Our part in the project were the silo&#8217;s load-bearing steel structures. We simulated possible fire scenarios in the silo and calculated the temperatures for the steel structures. On this basis, it was concluded that steel structures do not need fire protection. The client was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paulig.fi\/\">Oy Gustav Paulig Ab<\/a> and our partners were <a href=\"https:\/\/afry.com\/fi-fi\">P\u00f6yry Finland Oy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tommilaarchitects.com\/\">Tommila Architects Ltd<\/a> and WSP Finland Oy.
